During my summer internship and current year-long co-op at Rapiscan Systems, I am working alongside the Science and R&D team to develop our mobile and handheld X-ray systems.
My projects included running X-ray scans and quantifying the performance of detector materials, testing variations of X-ray sources to minimize radiation leakage for handheld use, and engineering a novel method to validate our radiation detector and X-ray portal system.
I learned a wide range of new skills, including GD&T and tolerancing, large assembly design, and communicating with manufacturers to ensure parts are received within our proper specifications.
